State Camp Exempt Policy

IAHA State Player Development Camp Exemption Policy

IAHA State Player Development Camp Exemption Policy

The following information provides the established IAHA State Camp Policies for those players that are playing out of state. These policies are applicable to all Idaho players that play out-of-state or for players who have Tier I or Tier II conflicts.  There are no exceptions to these policies.

Please note that cost is not an acceptable rationale for requesting an exemption. We expect players to make it to the Idaho Player Development Camp or another State Camp unless there is a legitimate conflict, which includes but is not limited to: the player is injured, the player would be forced to leave a Tier I or Tier II, prep school, or junior team still playing its season to attend the Idaho Camp. Exemptions WILL NOT be granted for family vacations or class trips. It is the practice of the Idaho Player Development Camp to send the best players to the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp, regardless of where they are playing their season

State Camp Exemptions

The preference is that all players attend the Idaho State Camp. Idaho players that are playing out of state and cannot attend the Idaho Camp should attempt to attend the State Camp where they are located and have an evaluation sent to the Idaho State Camp Director. Only State Camp evaluations are considered valid--coach and/or hockey director evaluations are not acceptable. Players must first attempt to follow this process and any request for an exemption must be fully explained, including the efforts taken to follow the process and why they are requesting an exemption.

Any player applying for an exemption to the Idaho State Camp must submit their request in writing along with a $135 check payable to IAHA. Request must fully explain the reason for the conflict that prevents the player from attending the Idaho State Camp. In addition, the request and should include the details stated in the “Required Information” section below. The check is a non-refundable application fee. Note the following:

  • Exemptions will not be granted until after the Idaho State Camp.

  • Exemptions will be reviewed and ranked by the State Camp Director, in consultation with members of the age appropriate evaluation team, the IAHA President and Vice President, the Rocky Mountain District Coach-in-Chief, and the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp Director.

  • The final determination of which players go to the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp, including both the players who attended the Idaho Player Development Camp and the players who have applied for the exemption, will be made by the State Camp Director, in consultation with members of the age appropriate evaluation team, the IAHA President and Vice President, the Rocky Mountain District Coach-in-Chief, and the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp Director. It is the practice of the Idaho Player Development Camp to send the best players to the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp, regardless of where they are playing their season.

  • If the number and quality of Idaho Camp and exemption players merits it, the IAHA Camp Director will work with the District Camp Director to bid for additional slots. NOTE: Additional slots are only available if other states return allocated slots. We have no idea of the number of additional slots available until announced by the District Camp Director and he/she cannot determine the number until the last state camp is completed.
